Signs, symptoms, and Causes of pesky pinworms
Signs/ Symptoms
Pinworms cause pruritus (itching) and irritation to the horse's hind end. The horse may frequently rub his/her hind end causing broken tail hairs, bald patches, and inflamed skin. The condition also makes the horse restless, which can lead to a dulled coat.
In serious cases, the long-tailed female worms may be found on the anus, rectum, or in the manure. Flattened, yellow egg masses may also be found in the horse's manure or around the anus.
